A collaboration two years in the making.
Earls Collection exploded into the scene in 2024 with their tasteful collaboration on the ASICS GT-2160. The sneaker honored Maori culture with its pattern design and material usage. It went down as one of our favorite sneakers of 2024. And then, the brand went quiet on the sneaker front.
While focusing on their inline collection throughout 2025, a teaser at the turn of the year served as a reminder that Earls’ connection with ASICS was about to foster another project. That project has come to fruition.
Earls collection and ASICS are now focusing their attention on the GEL-CUMULUS 16. The model has spent the last year as a priority for ASICS. As a result, it has become a fan favorite thanks to some great collaborations. This latest collaboration with Earls is no exception.
For Lewi Brown, the founder of Earls Collection, this sneaker is a personal expression of his values and Maori culture. Nicknamed the “Home” GEL CUMULUS 16, the sneaker is centered around the idea of coming home and healing the bruised parts within yourself. Something we have all experienced at least once in our lives.
The sneaker uses mesh panelling that nods to the GT-2160 collaboration that reflects the Maori principle of honoring those who help us move forward. Elevated material usage like the pebbled leather found on the iconic ASICS stripes, symbolizes the years of dedication by Brown’s mother, with aged texture representing experience gained over time. Finally, the brown overlays speak to Brown’s family heritage and the sense of comfort that comes from coming home.
Though they made us wait a few years, Earls Collection’s reconnection with ASICS was worth the wait- just like coming home.
