JJJJound’s partnership with New Balance will continue with an exploration into running heritage.
First launched in 1986, the New Balance 475’s intended purpose was to create a long-distance running sneaker that could stand up to any condition.
The 475 succeeded in this endeavor, becoming one of the brand’s cornerstone models of the 1980s. Naturally, the sneaker’s low-profile build allowed it to, over time, transition into a stable in day-to-day fashion. That transition is being explored by JJJJound in their upcoming collaboration.

“The 475 is a timeless runner with a great shape and was a strong baseline for the studio to work off of. The 475 was originally launched as a long-distance runner, the same design logic naturally translates to an all-day shoe for 2026,” explained JJJJound in their announcement of the collaboration.

JJJJound’s exploration into the 475 is similar to, well, all of JJJJound’s projects. The idea is not to reinvent the wheel. It is to maximize on the wheel’s already brilliant design. Be it by recreating the wheel through material usage, or allowing the wheel to stand out with the use of a color that almost feels out of place.
Wheel metaphor aside, the colorway choices by JJJJound for this project epitomize the Montreal imprint’s strategy.
One colorway, primarily in black, is intended as a staple shoe. This colorway does not need to do a lot of talking, as it’s intended to highlight the details that made the 475 a legacy sneaker for New Balance.
Meanwhile, the yellow colorway does a lot of talking. Muted tones are always an expectation for a JJJJound product, which is what makes colorways like this yellow 475 so special. Even so, the yellow is muted enough to maximize the versatility of the sneaker- just as Justin Saunders intended.
The JJJJound and New Balance 475 collection will launch beginning on April 9th.
