Right on time for Con season, Jordan Brand is celebrating its larger-than-life hero with the Air Jordan 4.
For decades, Michael Jordan graced the world of basketball with heroic performance after heroic performance. Like the most reliable of superheroes, MJ always answered the call. To some Eastern Conference fans, he might have been like a super-villain, but to the game of basketball, Michael Jordan represented heroism at its purest. Electrifying play, fast transitions, literal glass shaterring dunks- MJ was a superhero on the court.

This latest Air Jordan 4 release channels the awe and wonder fans experienced during Jordan’s game. The “Comic” Air Jordan 4 brings our basketball hero into the world of comic books. And, boy, does it do it in a fun way.
The sneaker features action-packed updates to one of the most iconic sneakers in MJ’s signature line. Jordan Brand describes the sneaker as a “variant cover of a key issue”. Truthfully, that is a great way to describe the sneaker’s execution. It still has the same iconic stills and the same breathtaking beats of your favorite comic book, or favorite Jordan silhouette, all the while bringing a new and creative approach to the sneaker.

Built on the base of classic Air Jordan 4 colorways like the “White Cement” or “Fire Red”, the “Comic” Air Jordan 4 takes the familiar details and exaggerates them with references to comic books. The netting is replaced by a pop-art-inspired design with a multi-colored backdrop that adds life to the black and white upper. The lower eyelets come in red, while the wing eyelets come in a pink color and are designed to appear like comic book action bubbles. Meanwhile, the iconic heel-tab features “Nike Air” written in comic book style font with a pop art backdrop.
The Air Jordan 4 “Comic” truly feels like a breath of fresh air. The sneaker’s inspiration from comic books and vintage Nike era JB merchandise feels a bit like an untapped area of inspiration for Jordan Brand. That has all changed now. And as this pair begins to hit the hands of Jordan fans who were mesmerized by their hero on the court, there might be calls for a new issue to drop later down the line.
The Air Jordan 4 “Comic” launches on Saturday, July 25th, via Nike and participating retailers, including Foot Locker.
