The latest Kobe 5 Protro reflects Bryant’s love of competition.

Inspired by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the “Hyper Royal” Kobe 5 picks up where last year’s Kobe 6 left off.

The sneaker features bold hits of Blue, and is accented by a silver swoosh, a color that appears in Dodger uniforms and apparel. The hits of red, which have historically balanced the Dodgers’ blue template, appear on the outsole and the most distinctive detail on the sneaker: the baseball stitching along the upper.

The connection of basketball and baseball might seem out of the ordinary to some, but it is reflective of Bryant’s passion. The Lakers’ icon adopted the Dodgers as an adult- and even threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the team in 2000. As Nike Basketball continues to celebrate Bryant’s legacy, it was only right for the Kobe Protro line to return to that famous Dodger blue.
