We are not worthy.
The celebration of the Air Max 95 continues beyond its 30th anniversary.
2025 was loaded with coveted after coveted launches of the iconic 1995 runner. Now, a whole year after the celebration of the sneaker, we are still seeing classics hit the shelves. This week, Nike is giving us not one, but two original colorways of the Air Max 95.

Both launched when the model was first released in 1995, the Comet Red and Slate Air Max 95 have been held in high regard by collectors globally. The tasteful colorblocking, of course, is the biggest reason for the love the sneakers have received. That said, how close to the vest Nike has constantly held both colorways has also played a role in the allure of both sneakers.
Counting this week’s retro releases, this will mark only the third time both the Comet Red and Slate 95s have been released. Meanwhile, the Neon 95 has launched over 10 times. Of course, the Neon is the marquee colorway of the 95. That said, dropping three times in 31 years is not a lot. Especially when you consider the materials the sneakers are made of. The fact of the matter is, pairs from the last time the Slates released are likely on their last legs. All in all, the return of both of these sneakers is right on time.

The 2026 rendition of the Comet Red and Slate Air Max 95 is returning like they should- build on the fan favorite Big Bubble mold. Introduced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the sneaker, the Big Bubble version of the Air Max 95 focuses on comfort. The wider upper and exaggerated air bubbles truly change how the Air Max 95 feels on foot. It was only right for these classic sneakers to return in style.
Both the Comet Red and Slate 95s have a sense of aura around them. They come from the era of Air Max 95s, which were so coveted by sneaker collectors. Through the passage of time, both sneakers have disappeared from the pavements, though they have forever remained in the sneaker consciousness. This week, sneaker heads have a chance to reacclimatize themselves to two classic sneakers.
The Air Max 95 Big Bubble “Slate” returns on May 7th. The Air Max 95 Big Bubble “Comet Red” launches the following day, on May 8th.
The Slate pair will launch via Foot Locker on May 17th.
