.SWOOSH’s third rendition of the Nike Rejuven8 is oozing with older brother aesthetic.
That same recreational hobby your older brother told you to stay away from (mind you, while he partook in it) is the inspiration behind this special pair of slides.
In true .SWOOSH fashion, the slides roll-out began with a special platform game on the SNKRS app. Yes, Nike’s home for gaming developed another game to promote a sneaker launch. The platformer, which questioned my dexterity, has you roll through courses filled with items to pick up. Of course, those items are mostly easter eggs referencing previous .SWOOSH projects and gaming culture.
Those who participated in the game rolled around in the two previous renditions of the Rejuven8 that received the .SWOOSH treatment- but those with a keen eye found the third colorway in the game. “Touch Grass- The Game” not only gave fans a fun distraction, but it also reminded the audience of the true gems .SWOOSH has blessed us with. All the while, revealing their third rendition of the Rejuven8.
This multilayered rollout is to be expected by .SWOOSH. Heck, even the name of the slides, The Rejuven8 Patched, is multilayered. In the world of gaming, “patching a game” is updating the game to either improve or change something that requires attention. Considering the latest Rejuven8 takes December’s launch to a new level.
Like your favorite game dropping a new level, the Patched Rejuven8 introduces flames and shades of black, the same colors you’d find in your older brother’s closet when you needed a t-shirt. This is not to say the Pine Green and Wheat colorways from last winter weren’t cool. Simply, the Patched rendition achieves the peak of older-brother coolness. After all, that’s who we all wanted to emulate growing up.
The references don’t stop there, though. The slide’s official launch is another clue as to what the Patched Rejuven8 is referencing. In the similar way that Nike SB has previously referenced the celebration of 4/20, this special patch honors the holiday that is, well, synonymous with gaming. The references to 4/20 don’t hit you over the head. Instead, the burned grass celebrates the holiday so beloved by several gamers.
The Patched Rejuven8 encapsulates the world of gaming into a comfortable slide. From the hobbies that motivate us to play, to the person who might have gotten us into gaming to begin with .SWOOSH has loaded the Rejuven8 with references that will resonate with sneaker fans.
The .SWOOSH Rejuven8 “Patched will drop this weekend exclusively at select retailers. The slides will, then, see a special SNKRS Reserve Launch on 4/20. Pairs are expected to ship out by August 20th, ahem… I mean…..8/20.
