What is it about the Air Jordan 5’s non-OG colorways that is so mystifying?

Of course, every Jordan Brand silhouette tends to have these iconic colorways that did not debut with the original model. However, those new colorway retros look absolutely great on the Air Jordan 5.

Both the Burgundy and Olive Air Jordan 5s were originally released in 2006 as part of Jordan Brand‘s Lifestyle (LS) vertical. The colorways quickly became fan favorites. The change in colors was so jarring. It was not often that a Jordan retro released in colorways that weren’t Chicago Bulls-inspired. The addition of premium suede uppers made the shoes feel premium and truly special additions to the ever-long catalogue of Jordan Brand retros. The same can be said for the sneaker making a triumphant return this weekend.

Five years after the successful launches of the aforementioned LS colorways of the Air Jordan 5, the brand brought a new and unique colorway to their mainline collection.

Releasing in May of 2011, the Wolf Grey Air Jordan 5 quickly became a hit among sneaker fans. Not only did it indirectly continue the legacy of the LS colorways, but it brought another classic grey Air Jordan into the mix.

Of course, this rendition of grey was a lighter, silver-like shade of gray, as compared to its cooler counterpart. The luxurious feel of the premium suede was juxtaposed by the classic 23 stitching, the reflective tongue, and, of course, the speckled shark tooth detail on the midsole.

Regardless of the differences, the Wolf Grey 5 pushed the Air Jordan 5 further into a realm of cool. Nowadays, the news cycle is dominated constantly by the latest colorway of the Air Jordan 4 or Air Jordan 1. Those shoes, rightfully so, have become the most popular Air Jordan retro models in 2026. There was a time, though, when the Air Jordan 5 was constantly throwing itself into the discussion.

Fifteen years later, the Wolf Grey 5 is making a return.

Though the sneaker space often finds itself preoccupied with trends or limited releases, the classic Air Jordan 5 is always in high demand.

This release appears to be no exception, understandably so. With its rich materials and neutral colors, the Wolf Grey 5 is as wearable as ever. The sneaker carries an important legacy of a time when the Air Jordan 5 was the canvas for the boldest retro launches from Jordan Brand.

The Wolf Grey Air Jordan 5 launches this Saturday, February 28th, via SNKRS and participating Jordan Brand retailers.

Sole Savy is unreal! With a busy schedule it’s hard to keep up on shoes, and the group keeps me up to date on releases, tips on how to manually cop, and a marketplace with killer deals from fellow like minded collectors. It’s changed the sneaker game for me!

@SoleSavy is the truth. They've helped me cop kicks I never would've imagined getting at retail. Members always willing to assist on drops too. And most of all, a REAL community of REAL sneakerheads. These guys should be the gold standard for sneaker communities! #LifetimeMember

My membership paid for itself three fold by being solely responsible for my union 4’s, mesh sacai waffles, sacai blazers, court purple aj1s, glow in the dark yeezy 350s, travis scott lows (which I traded to get desert ore ow’s), air max 1 londons, bc3’s for way under retail etc.

Can't say enough about SS. The stellar help with copping shoes is a given but it's the community that makes it extra special. Hands down one of the best decisions I made as a wannabe sneakerhead.

The community of sneakerheads and resources available to help manually cop are great and really will help you get more Ws. The Zoom calls for hyped drops like Union Jordan 4 only adds to the camaraderie while providing real time instruction
