Nike’s push of the iconic football boot turned sneaker continues with the return of another monumental colorway.
Regarded as one of the most beloved football boot lines of all time, the Total 90 line resurfaced in 2025 with the introduction of the Total 90 III SP.
The SP borrows the mold of the Total 90 III while swapping the outsole from pitch-ready cleats to a street-ready bottom.
Since the first round of colorways launched, Nike has released a few new vibrant colorways ready to hit the pavement. This upcoming pair, though, is a return of a fan favorite- and an iconic on the pitch colorway.
The Total 90 III was the boot for wonder kid Wayne Rooney. One of the faces of Nike’s Total 90 Campaign, Rooney made a splash in the 2004 EURO’s sporting the White and Red pair. That tournament Rooney would go on to score four goals in four games before unfortunately facing an injury that would end his EURO campaign.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Rooney handed his boyhood club, Everton, a transfer request. Manchester United would pay a, at the time record breaking, £27 million fee to acquire the 18 year old wonder kid. Marking the arrival of yet another superstar to the Red Devils’ roster.
Rooney would nurse an injury and miss the beginning of the 2004-2005 season. But his debut would finally come in a Champions League face off against Fenerbahce in late September. By the 30th minute, Rooney had scored a brace. At the 54th minute, Rooney would take a free-kick to record his hat trick- becoming the youngest player in Champions League history to score three goals in a game. All while wearing the boot with the hits of gold.
Rooney would go on to win 16 major trophies with Manchester United- cementing himself as one of the greatest to ever do it. That long thirteen year journey all began that fateful night at the Old Trafford. Wayne Rooney set the gold standard on his Manchester United Debut- all the white wearing the iconic White and Black Total 90 III.
Next week, the iconic colorway will make a return ready for the streets- with much anticipation. German retailer SoleBox collaborated with Bayern Munich Winger, Leroy Sane, to style the upcoming Total 90 III SP.
The campaign features Sane wearing the sneaker with on trend wide-legged stripped pants, as well as a tonally matching tan coat. The campaign further emphasizes the transition the updated Total 90 III has made since it’s return. It built it’s legacy on the pitch, but it’s latest iteration has captured the attention of the most stylish of football fans.

The White and Black Total 90 SP will hit SNKRS and participating Nike retailers on May 1st.
With more colorways already confirmed on the way, the Total 90 III SP is poised for an impressive debut season in 2025.
