Originally released in 1994, the Shadow 10 returns tomorrow.

The Air Jordan 10 was released at perhaps the most interesting period of time for Jordan Brand.

In October of 1993, Michael Jordan shocked the world of basketball when he announced his retirement from the game of basketball. A grief-stricken Jordan thought he had nothing else to prove in the world of basketball and wanted to pursue his first love, the game of baseball.

Jordan would go on to do so, playing for the Chicago White Sox’s Minor League affiliate, the Birmingham Barons. Meanwhile, Tinker Hatfield and Jordan Brand cooked up the next signature sneaker in the line, the Air Jordan 10.

Originally designed as a tribute shoe, the AJ 10 featured full-length Air cushioning in the midsole and flex grooves for traction on the outsole. The AJ 10’s innovation translated to superior performance on the court. The outsole, perhaps the defining feature of the sneaker, features Jordan’s biggest accolades. From his Rookie of the Year award to his final NBA Championship, it was all listed on the bottom of the shoe.

As we all know, Jordan would grace the NBA with a return in March of 1995. Though the season had already begun, he would go on to lead the Bulls to an Eastern Conference Semi-Finals appearance. The Air Jordan 10 was his footwear of choice. The Shadow, in particular, was one of Jordan’s pairs of choice during his comeback-playoff run.

Interestingly, the Air Jordan 10 received a special design detail during this time. Several iterations of Jordan’s on-court pairs of the Air Jordan 10 featured his jersey number stitched in along the ankle. As if Jordan wearing the number 45 wasn’t jarring enough, the jersey number now also appeared along his signature sneaker. That detail would be honored when the Shadow received the retro treatment for the first time.

In 2008, Jordan Brand introduced the world to the Countdown Packs. These packs celebrated 23 years of Jordan Brand by releasing iconic colorways of Jordan’s signature sneakers.

The very first countdown pack to release in January of 2008 featured the ‘He Got Game’ Air Jordan 13 and the ‘Shadow’ Air Jordan 10. The CDP 10 would mark the first time the Air Jordan 10 ‘Shadow’ would receive the retro treatment. That pair tweaked upon the 1994 original by changing the colors on the sock liner to appear lighter. The sneaker also featured a nod to those Jordan 10 PEs by stitching his number on the side of the ankle. This time, though, Jordan’s iconic 23 replaced the 45.

Ten years after rolling out the red carpet for the Countdown Pack collection, the Air Jordan 10 Shadow returned. The 2018 retro promised a remaster of the 1994 original, and it delivered in that aspect. Gone were the white details on the sock liner, and gone was the 23 stitched on the ankle.

—————

The Air Jordan 10 Shadow is returning this week, for only the fourth time in the shoes’ history. The 2025 retro holds the same promise the 2018 pair offered. The sneaker looks true to the pair that started it all. True to the pair that came at perhaps the most interesting time for Jordan Brand. And true to the shoe that, on multiple occasions, ushered in a new era for Jordan Brand.

The Air Jordan 10 ‘ Shadow’ returns tomorrow at 10 AM EST via SNKRS and participating Air Jordan retailers.

Sole Savy is unreal! With a busy schedule it’s hard to keep up on shoes, and the group keeps me up to date on releases, tips on how to manually cop, and a marketplace with killer deals from fellow like minded collectors. It’s changed the sneaker game for me!

@SoleSavy is the truth. They've helped me cop kicks I never would've imagined getting at retail. Members always willing to assist on drops too. And most of all, a REAL community of REAL sneakerheads. These guys should be the gold standard for sneaker communities! #LifetimeMember

My membership paid for itself three fold by being solely responsible for my union 4’s, mesh sacai waffles, sacai blazers, court purple aj1s, glow in the dark yeezy 350s, travis scott lows (which I traded to get desert ore ow’s), air max 1 londons, bc3’s for way under retail etc.

Can't say enough about SS. The stellar help with copping shoes is a given but it's the community that makes it extra special. Hands down one of the best decisions I made as a wannabe sneakerhead.

The community of sneakerheads and resources available to help manually cop are great and really will help you get more Ws. The Zoom calls for hyped drops like Union Jordan 4 only adds to the camaraderie while providing real time instruction
